G.S.S Goes To The Netball Tournament

G.S.S Goes To The      Netball Tournament.
On Thursday the 31st of July, all those who go to Windmill park on Wednesday to play netball, went to the AMI netball stadium and participated in the netball tournament. My team, Year 6 Ruby, had a bye first and then we got into action. We lost the first game but then we won every other game we had. We lost a team member, which was Talia Jeffery because of a hand injury. We got another team member, Laura Mooney and she was just as good as Talia. Eleanor Clark’s team, Year 6 Green, won the first 3 games, lost the 4th game and won the last 2 games. Chloe Simpson’s team, Year 5 Lime, won all their games and they won their section. Amy Petau-Ah Poe’s team, Year 5 Blue, won their 1st game and lost the rest of their games. The coach for my team is Lynne Tofilau and our manager is Liz Trainor. Eleanor’s team coach is Aaron Clark and their manager is Elizabeth Molony. Chloe’s team coach is Fran Simpson and she is also their manager. Amy’s coach is Irene Petau and Emma Smoldon is their manager.

School Journalist

Today we had Jane Luscombe (from 3 News) come to visit.  She worked with us, the school journalists to give us a idea of how to be good journalists, e.g. gave us a note pad a pen and a 3 news beanie we also practiced interviewing each other about a specific topic using what, who, when, why, how to help us learn the basics to interview people in school events. We also got taught about how to take notes and write a good article. Overall we have really improved our skills on being a journalist and managed to enjoy ourselves while learning about how to be a great journalist.

Basic facts

In Room 7 every afternoon we do basic facts that takes 3 to 5 minutes. There are 3 different types of Basic facts. The one you start with is 3 minutes and goes from 0 to 12 times tables. To pass you need to get 50/50. There are 12 sheets you have to do before you go to basic facts 5 minutes. For basic facts 5 minutes you have to answer 100 questions in 5 minutes. To pass you need to get 95/100 or above. There are 9 stages before you go to Basic facts Gold. Gold is the hardest stage with 100 questions that are +, -, x and division and you have to answer them in 5 minutes. There are 5 sheets you have to finish.  After you finished Gold you do the whole 5 minute basic facts but in 3 minutes with still 100 questions. After you completed 3 minutes you get a fancy certificate and don't have to do anything during it.In this photo Eleanor.C and Bianca.A are on basic facts stage 3 and Talia.J is on basic facts gold stage 1. Everyone else is on 3 minutes.
